I started Take Root Garden Design in 2016, with a newborn child on my hip having just finished a foundation degree in Garden Design.  Quite literally.  I delivered my final course  presentation wearing my sleeping son in a baby carrier!. After 22 years as an analyst for the NHS, it was perhaps not the most conventional next-step, but it was my way of searching for a new challenge that would allow me to help people find happiness and joy in their lives.

Gardening has always been part of my life and part of how I connect with the people I love. My fondest early memory is of walking around my grandmothers garden, being directed to pick the freshest mint leaves and snipping them in a little cup to make a delicious sauce for our meal.  It's these little moments of joy and connection which define us, and our gardens or green space have a special magical quality for bringing people together.

So when I find myself in a dark place, struggling with life, as we often find ourselves doing, I have always found solace in green spaces.  Even when I was renting a home in London, I filled grocery trays with compost and grew peas and lettuce.

My style has developed to focus on creating an environment which offers these little moments of joy for my clients.  Space to play with the grandkids.  A quiet spot to sit and watch wild birds.  An area to fill with loved ones and laughter.

I am pre-registered member of the Society of Garden Designers, and care for one husband, two children, one hamster and three chickens.
