The owners of this site bought some previously agricultural land from some property developers to extend their existing garden, but needed inspiration to make the whole garden come together as a whole. This was a design and plant project, so after the landscapers completed the build I supported the client to add the plants to the site and really bring it to life.
The additional land is quite aggressively fenced onto the nearby new build homes, so it was important to bring the focus into the garden and screen the boundary with soft planting. As a family garden, it also needed different areas for family members to enjoy, so that parents and kids could have their own spaces.
We created a sinuous path along the top of the garden to a small sun-trap space with a quiet space to sit and read in the pod seat. Around the side of the house, we created a small patio which could be used flexibly for additional dining or exercising/yoga. We added steps in key locations to improve access to the new parts of the garden.
Planting was simple and low maintenance. We included some feature trees to break up the fences and walls, shrubs for ground cover and easy care perennials suited to the site to add seasonal pops of interest. This client used my planting supervision and supply service, so I sourced plants from local nurseries and we planted them together. We were even joined by his daughter, who hadn't planted before but got really stuck in.
"We are really enjoying the garden. The Astrantia are in full flower and looking fabulous at the moment."
